Week 6 Update
Week 6 of the WattsWatt Countdown to Cold
24 – 31 July 2026
Week six of the 100 Day Countdown to Cold took us to Luton as the town celebrated its 150th year as a borough, continuing our mission to help households understand their energy costs and prepare for winter before the cold weather arrives.
Highlights
- We took the Countdown to Cold to Luton, speaking directly with households about their energy questions and misconceptions. In Luton, 55,259 households are overpaying by around £166 a year - that's a whopping £9.2 million a year WattsWatt can help Luton to save.
- We continued with our energy challenge questions, spotting red flags such as 'variable' tariffs, and people not knowing which energy supplier they are with, let alone what they are paying for every kilowatt.
- We didn't meet a single person on a fixed tariff - 7 in 10 households, on average, are still on a variable tariff with their energy supplier, which means they overpay for energy every time they flick the kettle on or have a bubble bath.
- We were also super excited to announce our latest energy supplier partner to get behind our mission to keep Britain warm this winter. Utilita Energy - energy supplier to 800,000 households - has joined WattsWatt, enabling our mission to help every household in Great Britain get more energy for their money. Watch this space - more supplier announcements coming very soon.
