Week 2 Update
Week 2 of the WattsWatt Countdown to Cold
24 – 30 June 2026
Another busy week focused on improving energy awareness, challenging common misconceptions and helping more people understand how to reduce their energy bills before winter arrives.
Highlights
- Visited East Riding of Yorkshire Council, meeting with tenants to discuss their heating bills, energy tariffs and the common myths that prevent households from accessing cheaper energy.
- Checked out some excellent council property drying strategies to avoid mould and damp.
- Took to the supermarket fridge aisles (any excuse!), using cucumbers as a simple visual demonstration to explain why 7 in 10 households are overpaying for their energy, making a complex issue easy to understand.
- Helped followers, friends, family and members of the public understand the energy price cap - what it is, why it changes every three months and why it should never be mistaken for the cheapest tariff available.
- Produced an explainer on the use of dehumidifiers during hot weather after community members asked whether they are an effective way to reduce humidity, helping people understand when they are beneficial and when improving ventilation may be the better solution.
- Continued encouraging households to check their tariffs early, ensuring they head into winter with the lowest possible energy costs and maximise their heat hours.
- Welcomed Mould Matters as the latest campaign sponsor.
“So many families that we meet are unable to strike the balance they need to stay healthy at home, making WattsWatt a valuable resource. When we do a risk assessment we offer to help the occupants check they are on the best tariff using WattsWatt Pro.”
